About Us
Saint Joseph's is a Benedictine monastery in The Episcopal Church, founded in 2001. The community is rooted in the Rule of St. Benedict and the disciplines and spirituality that it promotes. We live a traditional monastic life in community based on the three Benedictine vows of Stability, Conversatio (Conversion to the Monastic Way of Life), and Obedience. We are Anglo-Catholic in the way we approach theology and in our style of worship, bearing witness within The Episcopal Church to the truth of the Catholic Faith.
Prayer and Work
Like all Benedictine monks, our first work and purpose is to maintain a life of consistent and regular prayer- both liturgical and personal - while also engaging in work to support ourselves, and study to enrich our minds. This contemplative center prepares us for and enriches our work with others- the needy and poor, and those who come to us seeking guidance and support on their journey toward a closer relationship with God. We offer spiritual direction for individuals at the monastery, and make ourselves available to lead retreats, quiet days, and give programs for parishes and other groups outside the monastery.
Guests
Our current monastery, unfortunately, is small and has only one guest room, and it is within the Enclosure (private part of the monastery reserved for the monks only), so we are only able to offer overnight accommodations to immediate family members, visiting Religious from other Orders, Oblates of our monastery, and those inquiring into a vocation with us at this time. It is our sincere hope to one day be able to relocate and build a Guest House that will enable us to offer 3-5 day retreats for individuals and groups.
